Dear Colleagues,
The days are at their shortest this month, and the dark is at its longest. And yes, it is cold outside.
This is the time of year when so many cultures focus on celebrating the light, both in reality and in its deeper meaning for us. Many thanks to our CES Joy and Justice team for contributing the perspectives and resources to us all, on some of the observances celebrated during the month of December. Often we need these timely reminders that light is something we bring to others, through our work and our care. I’m very conscious at this time of year that what you all do every day impacts the life of students and children, and that you never know when that interaction is going to be the one that for that kid is really important.
In a recent interview for our soon-to-be-revealed CES video, one of our colleagues, Sabine Denise Jaques, said that at CES, “we are constantly planting seeds and sometimes we don’t get to see what happens. But those seeds are like hope. It’s a faith that those seeds that we’re planting will eventually bloom and flourish.”
While it is true that we can’t always measure the ways in which we have an effect, I thank you keeping the faith, planting the seeds, and bringing the light.
Sincerely,
Todd
